In
order to begin this assignment:
Objectives:
Students will know and be able to:
1.
Resize columns and rows in Microsoft Excel.
2. Format the alignment of selected cells in Microsoft Excel.
3. Format the color of selected cells in Microsoft Excel.
4. Adjust cell size to fit text.
5. Save as they are working, and create a back-up of their work
when they are finished.
Perform
the following operations for Excel 1:
A.
Resizing the cells:
- Place
the cursor on the left numbered column between the 1st and 2nd
row number. Notice that the cursor turns into a line with arrows
above and below the line.
- Click
and drag the line down while watching the cell reference box
in the upper left part of the window. Drag downward until you
see the height size 40.50. Continue to resize the rows this
way until you have resized rows 1 and 2 (the rows may have to
be bigger depending on the information you are putting in the
cell).
- Once
you are comfortable resizing the height of the rows you can
resize the width of the columns. Place the cursor between the
A and B column letters and resize column A to a Width of 14.
Continue to resize the columns this way until you have resized
columns A through H.

Editing The Cell Data:
- Highlight
the chart from cell A1 to H2 and go to Format - Cells.
- Click
the alignment tab on the dialog box and click Center Horizontaly,
Center Vertically, and Wrap text. Click OK and once you begin
typing you will see the results.
- Highlight
the chart again from cell A1 to H2. While these cells are highlighted
go to Format Cells and click the Borders tab. Then, click Outline
and Inside under presets. Click OK to apply effects. C.
Enter Period 1 in cell A1. Press tab to move to the next cell
and enter Period 2. Enter the remaining information as it looks
in the sample schedule... See

Enter the class information and teacher name under the apporpriate
period #.
E.
Applying a Shading to the cells:
- Select
the column you want to color and click the cell fill color button
on the right side of the formatting toolbar (hold the pointer
on the paint can at the top and it should say Fill Color).
- Select
Red Fill Color for period 1 and a Black Fill Color for period
2, alternating Red and Black until period 7.
- Re-color
the font colors to match those in the example schedule above.
